About Us
The Monash Medical Orchestra (MMO) was established in 2011 by medical students passionate about creating opportunities for their peers to continue practising and performing music. Amidst a busy study schedule, many students forgo their interests in music and lose an important creative outlet. We enable medical students to share their passion for music with each other and with the wider community.

Under the musical direction of Mr Robert Dora, the orchestra performs a variety of repertoire ranging from classical masterpieces to modern contemporary works, including some compositions specifically commissioned for our orchestra. Over the years our repertoire has included medleys of musicals such as The Lion King and Les Miserables, as well as famous classical works such as Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade amongst works by many other classical composers.
The MMO holds two major concerts in Melbourne each year, in addition to our Chamber Concert and concert in Gippsland. Through these concerts, we’ve displayed the diverse talents of the Monash medical school, and supported causes such as the Hush Foundation, Indigenous Literacy Foundation and Black Dog Institute.
In 2022, the MMO is celebrating its belated 10th anniversary. We thank all of our players, partners and audience for their support over the years, and look forward to the next decade of making music with the Monash Medicine community.
