EXCERPTS FROM SWAN LAKE – TCHAIKOVSKY
The Monash Medical Orchestra Online is back! This time we bring to you, from all over Australia, two movements from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
The first time the MMO came together for an online video last semester, we hoped to produce a musical performance that would inspire and sustain our medical, musical family through a difficult time.
These last few months were even more daunting than the lockdown of semester 1. It has been particularly difficult for those who work in the performing arts, the cultural heart of Melbourne. The second lockdown has taught us that without music, our community is worse off – music sustains us, and gives meaning to all of life’s experiences.
Just as millions of Victorians turned to the music they love, the MMO turned to music we love. Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake was a challenge to perform virtually, but we are incredibly pleased with the result. Huge thanks must go to our Conductor, Robert Dora, without whom this project would not have been possible. We owe him a debt of gratitude.
Special thanks must also go to Lachlan Coman for countless hours supporting Robert with video editing and alongside fellow Co-Chair Natalie Liu, coordinated this massive project.
We hope you enjoy this performance! Feel free to share it with your friends and family.
With love,
The Monash Medical Orchestra
NIMROD – EDWARD ELGAR
The Monash Medical Orchestra is proud to present – Nimrod, Movement IX from Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
A global pandemic may have disrupted our grand plans for a year of symphonies and concertos, but it has offered us the opportunity to hopefully do something even greater – share the joy of music with an even wider audience at a time when we all need something to lift our spirits.
For nearly ten years, the Monash Medical Orchestra has been a place where fellow medical students are able to nurture a love of music and share that passion with others in our community. We have been determined to ensure that this tradition continues, despite any challenge that might come our way.
In this video you may see some new faces, our first year students who will play a vital role in our orchestra for years to come. You may also recognise the faces of many of our alumni who still value the joy of making music with others.
Our sincere gratitude goes to our conductor, Robert Dora. Preparing an interpretation of the work and editing the final result was an extraordinary challenge that demanded countless hours of meticulous work. This video would be nothing without him. We are incredibly grateful.
To the MMO community, those of you who enjoy our music – thank you for your ongoing support. We hope you enjoy this video and that it lifts your spirits.
Stay happy, stay healthy, and stay musical.
Lots of love,
The Monash Medical Orchestra (Online)
